To the Editor:

In “It’s Time to Evict J Street from the Jewish Communal Tent” (July 30, 2015), Mr. Jacobs and Mr. Hamilton directed a number of out-of-line accusations at fellow American Jews who are members of J Street, the most tasteless being that they are somehow agents of the Iranian regime.

This sort of rhetoric...

To the Editor:

Thank you so much for your high-quality publication.

In October 1943 my great grandfather, Rabbi Eliezer Poupko, marched with R’ Moshe Feinstein, Rabbi Eliezer Silver and 400 other rabbis to the White House to ask President Roosevelt to do more to help European Jews who were being massacred by the Nazis.

Today, like then, the Iranians are threatening to destroy the Jewish people with their nuclear weapons program. Thank you so much for sharing Rabbi Sytner’s beautiful and inspiring article (“Finding the Strength to Care,” July 25, 2015).

I am personally aware of this story in Israel and the situation is incredibly difficult (as is the fundraising on Daniel’s behalf). Thank you for helping get this story out. If you have any further contacts or individuals, friends or just klal Yisrael members who might be able to help, please continue to share in this mitzvah by spreading the word!

Much appreciation,

May Klal Yisroel hear of no more Tzaar,

C. Schwartz

Rabbi Student’s conclusion is that the philosophy of personal happiness as the supreme value that underlies the Supreme Court’s decision stands in direct contradiction to the Torah that sets obedience to God’s will as the highest value.  In case of conflict between personal happiness and demands of the Torah, we must surrender to God’s will and duty must...

To the Editor:

Editor’s note: This letter from Rabbi Gil Student responds to three recent letters received by the Jewish Link in reaction to his article, “The Modern Orthodox Jew and Gay Marriage,” published July 2, 2015.

Thank you, Hale Perlmutter, for your wonderful thoughts. I’m not sure where in my article you saw a call for exclusion—either of learned women or LGBT Jews. We do not need to change Jewish law or custom to be open and to reach out to our fellow Jews; we need to change our attitudes. Thankfully, many of us are doing pretty well in friendliness and openness but we all have room for improvement. Non-Orthodox Jews, LGBT Jews, women, older singles, divorcees...
