Vegetarians may feel they are eating healthfully while being compassionate toward animals. A new Israeli study provides evidence that they are also conserving the environment by shunning products derived from cows, hens, and pigs–especially beef. According to the findings of a Weizmann Institute of Science research team headed by Prof. Ron Milo–in collaboration with Israeli ex-pat Prof. Gidon Eshel from Bard College in New York–beef is measurably the most environmentally draining livestock on the market. The findings, which were recently published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, amazed even the authors.

Website Aids in Torah Memorization: The Students Become the Teachers

Josh Herzberg may not be a rabbi or even a teacher, but with Noah Santacruz, who grew up in Teaneck, he has helped many people memorize sections of the Torah and Gemara more easily. These two Cooper Union college students created the website TorahSummary.com, which contains summaries of the Gemarah, Chumash, and Navi.

On this website, the Gemara is summarized in about a line per amud. The Chumash and Navi are summarized in about one line per perek. In addition, the website also contains what Herzberg calls super short summaries of Chumash, which contain just a few words per perek.

I gave up my beloved iPhone for a Galaxy s5 Gold because of what I do for a living. Now that I am using Waze (Israeli designed crowd sourced GPS app) my battery, even while charging was totally depleted in under one hour. My Droid phone allows me to swap a dead battery for a fully charged battery, and I did find a great Droid app called Battery Guru. It does a baseline of how you use your phone for 48 hours. Then turns on and off certain apps that will increase the battery life of your phone.
