Summer TBO Takes Off

A group of talented young boys are spending their summer playing baseball. TBO 8U Summer Travel Team is off to a fast start, with a 6-2 record, including beating perennial top teams Paramus, Ramsey and Clifton so far this season.

The team is made up of the following players: Ben Chesner, Zachary Cohen, Daniel Eckman, Yonatan Faber, Jacob Fineman, Shia Forgash, Eitan Goldwasser, Noam Grossman, Bentzion Keiser, Jonathan Milgrom, Jessie Reinhart, Calvin Rose, Avi Winslow, Josh Winslow.

The team is coached by Ari Eckman and Micah Kaufman.

MGBL Inaugural Men’s League Championship

On Wednesday night, June 29, four talented teams met to narrow the field down to the two that would compete for bragging rights as the champions of the 1st season of MGBL Men’s league basketball.

The first game featured Tree Point Play vs. The Yavneh Academy team. When these teams met in the regular season, Tree Point Play walked away the 48-39 victors. The defeat was only Yavneh’s second of the season and Yavneh entered the gym determined not to have a repeat performance. The seed for the city of Cleveland’s first professional championship in a major sport in 52 years may have been planted at the Shaw Jewish Community Center on White Pond Drive in Akron, Ohio, nearly 20 years ago.

That’s when a tall, lanky kid from Akron named LeBron James walked onto the hardwood court and changed the game of basketball forever.

Coach Keith Dambrot, now the head basketball coach at the University of Akron, conducted those sessions that attracted between 50 and 100 players.

Avigayil Shapiro, 17, as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The recent Ma’ayanot graduate had a terrific four years at Ma’ayanot. When she was a sophomore and junior, she was captain of the Ma’ayanot track team and won many ribbons for top three finishes. This past year in her fourth on the Ma’ayanot hockey team, she was appointed captain. Just before the season started, she fractured her foot during practice and was told that she might miss the whole season.
