A Bi-Partisan Show of Solidarity

I had the opportunity last week to participate in a conference call with the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, who discussed the latest developments in Israel and talked about potential scenarios for the coming weeks.

Ambassador Dermer noted the positive reception that he is getting as he makes the rounds...

Thank You For Standing With Us

There has been much discussion about the reaction, or, in some instances, the lack thereof, of our elected officials following the abduction of Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar, and Naftali Frenkel. Although news of their tragic deaths earlier this week at the hands of terrorists who carried out a senseless and barbaric act of violence was met with virtual widespread condemnation, there were elected officials who were notably silent in the eighteen days following their abduction. Some of those who represent us in Washington were very vocal about the kidnappings, while others failed to address the issue completely.

Those that did speak about the horrific crime that occurred certainly deserve our...

The Beauty of Jewish Unity

It could have been our child. When 19-year-old Eyal Yifrach, 16-year-old Gilad Shaar, and 16-year-old Naftali Frenkel were abducted as they waited for a ride to take them home to their families for Shabbat after spending a week studying at their yeshivot, we were all shaken. Every one of us felt that a piece of our heart and soul had been taken away by the terrorists who snatched the three innocent teenage students. Historically, in times of crisis, Jews have generally come together. Irrespective of where any particular person is on the...

Diplomacy is a complex exercise. Decisions made in the context of a diplomatic situation are often fraught with challenges and the implications of a determination that eventually proves to be erroneous could be dire.

One such diplomatic decision that very well may have lasting repercussions is the United States’ perplexing pronouncement that it is willing to work with the new unity government that has been formed by the Palestinian Authority and Hamas.

Hamas and its terrorist tendencies are well known to the United States and to the world. As a terrorist organization that openly calls for the obliteration of the State of Israel and relishes the opportunity to perpetrate...

Omitting the Obvious

For Chris Christie, it was a chance at redemption. After his last big appearance at a Jewish event ended in controversy following his utilization of a provocative term to describe the Judea and Samaria region in Israel, the New Jersey Governor and Republican presidential hopeful was expected to make amends when he took to the podium as a featured speaker at yet another high-profile Jewish affair.

The posh awards dinner in Manhattan for The Values Network, which was founded by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, featured an array of impressive guests and speakers. Among those in attendance was Republican mega-donor Sheldon Adelson, Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, actor Sean Penn, Texas Governor...
